Frequently asked questions

What clients ask us most

If your question is not here, write to us. An advisor will reply within 24 hours.

  • Do you work with all types of cargo?
Yes. We handle everything from textile and industrial supplies to auto parts, food, and pharmaceutical products. Every operation is validated first to ensure regulatory compliance and the required permits.
  • How long does a nationalization process take?
It depends on the type of cargo, transport mode, and required permits. We can release standard cargo in a few hours; complex operations may take 2 to 5 days.
  • Can you help us with Plan Vallejo?
Yes. We advise and operate under Plan Vallejo for raw materials, capital goods, and replacement programs. We design the structure, manage the registration, and operate the quotas.
  • What documents do I need to import into Colombia?
The basic documents for an import into Colombia are: commercial invoice, packing list, transport document (BL for sea, AWB for air, CMR for ground), Andean value declaration, customs mandate, and permits from INVIMA, ICA, or the relevant authority for your cargo. As your customs broker we validate documents before arrival to avoid port delays.
  • What is tariff classification and why does it matter?
Tariff classification means assigning each product a code (tariff subheading) within Colombia's Customs Tariff. It is critical because it determines customs duties, required permits, and applicable trade agreements. An incorrect classification can cost thousands of dollars in overpaid duties or DIAN penalties. Our tariff advisory team reviews it before every operation.
  • When does the Temporary Import regime apply?
It applies when goods enter Colombia for a specific use and will leave the country within a defined timeframe: leased capital goods, trade-show cargo, repair, or industrial processes. It offers significant tax benefits (deferred duties and VAT) but requires bonds and strict deadlines. We design operations under this regime when it fits your case.
  • What is the difference between nationalizing and importing into a free trade zone?
Nationalizing means paying all customs duties (tariff and VAT) at the time of entry. Importing into a free trade zone defers that payment: the goods enter Colombian territory without triggering duties until they are formally nationalized or exported. For operations where not all cargo will be sold inside Colombia, the free trade zone significantly optimizes cash flow. We coordinate with Planet Industrial for free-zone operations.
  • Can you represent us before DIAN at any port in the country?
Yes. We operate at Colombia's main seaports (Cartagena, Buenaventura, Santa Marta, Barranquilla), airports (Bogota, Medellin, Cali), and border crossings (Ipiales, Cucuta). We have physical offices in 11 cities in Colombia, which lets us respond with our own coordinators on every operation.
